Obituary for Joseph M. Picanzi

Joseph M. “Joe” Picanzi, 86, of Brockton passed away peacefully Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home with his loving family at his side after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Nelson) Picanzi.

Born May 27, 1932 in Brockton he was the son of the late Michael and Josephine (DiRenzo) Picanzi. Joe was a graduate of Brockton High School and received his degree in finance from business school in Boston.

His incredible professional career began with Stoughton Cooperative Bank and included Peoples Savings Bank, Lafayette Credit Union and Cirelli Foods. He was involved with the family run business, Yogurt Etc. and following his retirement worked as a bus driver for First Student. He was a proud Veteran of the Korean war and was a volunteer greeter at the War Memorial building in Brockton. Joe had several significant accomplishments and was a real presence in the Brockton community during his life. He was an honored recipient of the Citizen of the Year award and was inducted into the Brockton High School Hall of Fame for his enormous contribution as a BHS Booster. Joe was proud of his Italian heritage and was commander of the Italian American Veterans Club and started the annual Chuckie Tartaglia Bocce invitational to help raise funds for the scholarship. He was an avid gardener, Joe enjoyed Italian music, Italian food and socializing with his friends over coffee. His family was the most important part of his life and he enjoyed visiting with them, getting together for family cookouts and simply spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving children, Laurie Lemieux and her husband David of Norton, Linda Lombardo and her husband Paul of Onset, his children, Nicole and PJ with 5 great grandchildren, Michael Picanzi and his wife Jill and son Anthony of Brockton, Susan Vieira and her husband Bob and children, Bobby, Danny and Olivia of Middleboro, Sandra Chafe and her husband Barry and his brother Russell of Holbrook, Michelle Hassan and her husband Larry and daughter Victoria of Brockton, Joseph Picanzi and his wife Maria and children, Nicholas, Lauren and Mia of Easton and longtime companion Mary Kalafatas of No. Quincy. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence (Picanzi) Carriuolo.

Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) Brockton on Tuesday at 8:30am thence to Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., South Easton, MA where a funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Monday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of choice.
