Obituary for George "Chicky" "Junior" LaBate, Jr.

George LaBate, 87, or as most people knew him, “Chicky or Junior”, of Brockton, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Patti Anne (Alexander) LaBate; his son, Anthony LaBate; his brother, John LaBate; his sister, Antoinette Carfagna.

George grew up on the east side of Brockton where he exceled in playing baseball and other sports at a young age. At the age of 17, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served his country proudly in the Korean War.

George served 18 months in Korea and was awarded the purple heart after being wounded in the famous battle, “The Chosen Reservoir”.

Upon returning from Korea, George assisted his father with his construction business and eventually moved out to California to run a nightclub. While out west, George soon realized he was a true Brocktonian at heart and made his way back to the east coast.

George continued to run night clubs and took up the game of golf at the age of 40 and was pretty close to being a scratch golfer.

After marrying his wife Patti in the 1980’s and having his son Anthony, George eventually bought the Peddler’s Loft in Raynham which he ran successfully for 15 years. George lived a full and fun life, he will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00PM. Private family services will be held in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne. For guestbook and directions, visit www.Russellpicafuneralhome.com
