Mary "Athena" (Protopappas) Tsionis, 88, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with her loving family by her side. She was the loving wife of Philip Tsionis.

Born in Brockton on July 4, 1930 to the late Asimina and George Protopappas, Mary was the fourth of four sisters; the late Demetra Kallas of Jamaica, NY and her late husband Louis, and her niece Betty, Kanella Economos of Philadelphia, PA and her late husband Christopharos, and Sophia Terzakis and her late husband Nikolas, and her nephews, George and his wife Julia, and daughter Sophia- Mary, and Arthur and his wife Terry, and their son Nikolaos of Sacramento, CA.

Mary worked at Washburn’s Candy Factory and London Clothing. She got married in 1961 to Philip Tsionis (of Thoknia, Megalopolis, Greece) in Brockton. They had two daughters, Diane Tsionis- Agostino of South Weymouth, married to the late Natale Agostino, and their two children, Philip and his wife Meg of Harrisburg, PA and Vanessa of Danbury, CT, and Stacy Tsionis of Brockton.

She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, reading, musicals, music, traveling to Greece, and quiet time in the yard. She had a knack for numbers and calculating.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton, and enjoyed attending church and church social events, spending time with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren.

She joined her husband Philip as an assistant in the family owned restaurants in the ‘70s and later in Greece, where they had a pizza business while residing there for four years. She moved back to Brockton with her family and they opened Philip’s Luncheonette in Brockton, where they remained in business for 23 years. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends; may she rest in peace.
