Obituary for Marilyn R. (Simpson) Kirker

Marilyn R. (Simpson) Kirker, 89, of Brockton, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Taunton Nursing Home after a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of the late Edmund J. Kirker.

Born September 1, 1929 in Brockton, MA, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Lawrence Simpson and Mary (Hayes) Simpson. Marilyn was raised and educated in Brockton, and was a graduate of Brockton High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, North End Supply/Bay State Welding Supply Company of Brockton.

Marilyn was known for her gift of dancing and was a former ballroom dance teacher at the Gilbert Perry Dance Studio in Bridgewater as well as several dance productions with the Shirley Matta Dance Academy in Brockton. Most recently, she was a line dance instructor for the Avon, Brockton, and Randolph Senior Centers. She mentored a ladies dance troupe, "Sophisticated Ladies", who performed numerous routines over the past several years at local dance shows. Besides dancing, she enjoyed singing, weekly bingo, daily luncheons at the Westgate Pub, and occasional trips to the casino. She had a zest for fun and a zany sense of humor which led to many comedy skits created around themes found in the I Love Lucy and Carol Burnette Shows. Marilyn truly treasured her circle of friends and family. But, by far, her greatest and proudest achievement was being a loving mother!

She is survived by her children, Gail E. Kirker of Dighton and Russell E. Kirker and his wife Carol of Brockton; her grandchildren, Natalie Richards of Middleboro, Erin McDonough of West Bridgewater and Mark Kirker of McKinney, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Rachel Silva, John McDonough, Andrew McDonough, Stephen McDonough, III, Grace Kirker and Mason Kirker. She is also survived by her sister, Laverne McQuinn of South Easton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Following Cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., West Bridgewater on Saturday, November 10th from 8:45AM -9:30AM followed by a Memorial Mass in St. Ann Church, 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute PO Box# 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
