Obituary for Eunice (Smith) Frawley

Eunice (Smith) Frawley, 93, of East Bridgewater and West Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 7th. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Frawley.

Born August 3, 1925, in Great Bend, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Levi Thomas Smith and Ola Grace (Gibbs) Smith. Eunice was also the sister of the late Kenneth, Virginia, Lloyd, and Hubert Smith. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Meador of Kansas.

Eunice is also survived by her children, Dennis Frawley, and his dear friend Mary McCaul of Brockton; Douglas Frawley and his wife Susan of Halifax; Rebecca Barry her husband Chris of East Bridgewater and West Yarmouth. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Zachary Barra and his wife Bethany, an adoring great grandmother to Bennett and Landon Barra. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Additionally, Eunice was predeceased by her dear friend Joseph McDonald. They met late in life and enjoyed 15 wonderful years of travel, family time, and endless laughter.

Eunice grew up on a large farm in Kansas. She spent her childhood enjoying country life with her family. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Great Bend, until moving on to high school in the city. She was a student at Kansas University and studied Journalism. She met her husband, Francis Frawley, during World War II while he was stationed in Great Bend. They moved to Brockton, Massachusetts where they lived for many years.

Eunice was employed by the California Fruit Market in Brockton, and then as a bartender at the Brockton Cafe for close to 40 years. She loved her work almost as much as she loved her customers.

She enjoyed traveling extensively, but her true passion was spending time with family and friends. She always loved a party and she was the best host! Her Christmas parties are legendary. Eunice was a member of the West Bridgewater Garden Club and the Wee Bee Walkers. She was a voracious reader and therefore, claimed she had never been bored a day in her life. Eunice’s love of life was contagious, and her family often said she saw the world through rose-colored glasses. An eternal optimist, she was a glass-half-full person and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

A Memorial gathering will be held at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rte 28), West Bridgewater, on Wednesday from 10 am - 12:30 pm, followed by a prayer service at 12:30 pm.
