Obituary for Walter A. Morin

Walter A. Morin passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in the evening surrounded by his children. He was 84 years old.

Walter was the loving husband of the late Arlene (Dudevoir) of Bridgewater and is survived by their seven children; Michael and Leslie Morin of North Carolina, Peter and Carolyn Morin of New Hampshire, Martha and Keith Mader of Raynham, Suzanne and Gary Davis of Taunton, Paul and Karen Morin of South Carolina, David and Donna Morin of Raynham, and Lynne Morin of Raynham. He will also be greatly missed by his 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Walter was born on October 31st, 1933 in Salem, Massachusetts to the late Walter and Eva Morin. He grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts where he attended Keith Academy. He attended Merrimack College for his undergraduate studies and went on to earn his Master’s degree from Boston College and finally his Ph.D. in Zoology from Clark University. He married his love, Arlene, in 1957 and started their life together, eventually settling in Bridgewater.

He had many interests throughout his life and was always busy helping others. He was an active member in his parish community, both as a Catholic Education teacher and as a Eucharistic minister. He volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, where he made lasting friendships. He was an avid hiker, becoming a chapter leader of the Appalachian Mountain Club and a member of the 4,000 foot club. He enjoyed travelling, visiting all 50 states and many countries and spent many summers at Franstead Campground in New Hampshire and winters in Bonita Springs, Florida.

While he had many interests, his true passion in life was teaching—both in and out of the classroom. He was a professor at Bridgewater State College for 37 years, led Cub Scouts when his sons were young and never passed on an opportunity to share his knowledge. He even continued to visit his grandchildren’s classrooms as a guest speaker, sharing his life experiences with a new generation.

While his passion was teaching, his greatest joy in life was his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. A quintessential jokester, he loved making everyone laugh and was always the life of the party--he will be greatly missed.
