Obituary for Viola Merle (Bryan) Cambridge

Mrs. Viola Merle (Bryan) Cambridge passed away peacefully, Monday June 18, 2018 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston, just prior to her 75th birthday. She is survived by her husband George Cambridge and daughter Joanna Cambridge, both of Brockton.

Viola was the daughter of the late Lambert Bryan of St. George, Grenada WI and Susan (Mentis) Bryan of Truro, Nova Scotia Canada. Viola was educated through the Canadian school system and graduated from Holy Redeemer High School. Viola and George married in 1965 and soon after relocated to Boston for better opportunities.

Upon her arrival to Boston, Viola began her career at First National Bank of Boston. Later, along with her husband, she started working at Polaroid Corporation. She worked there for numerous years until she and George decided to move to Brockton to improve their and Joanna’s quality of life. Soon after, she left Polaroid to stay home for a more hands on approach bringing up Joanna, in addition to many kids in the neighborhood. Parents could always depend on her watchful eye or sweet treats for the kids. In her prime, she could produce a spread that would challenge any caterer. She was known for her food labels stating made by, time, and date when providing dishes for friends and family. Under her breath she would say, “They won’t get food poisoning from me”. Viola accepted the Lord in her life at an early age, growing up as a member of St. Philips African Orthodox Church in Sydney, Nova Scotia under the leadership of Rev. George Francis. In her later years, she continued her spiritual growth and supporting the church from afar. She was an amazing woman who had a zest for life. She loved parties, which became eminent with many of Joanna’s birthday parties and let us not forget how she loved celebrating Halloween. She had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. Viola was truly a giver and never looked for anything in return.

She will be missed and live forever in the hearts of many, near and far. Sisters; Grace Paris (deceased), Kathleen White and Cyril (both deceased), Delores Taylor and Wendell of Montreal, Susan Bryan of Montreal, brother; Lambert Bryan and Beverly of Ontario, sisters; Lady Isabel Waterman and Archbishop Vincent Waterman of Halifax NS, Mayann Francis of Halifax NS, Iris Crawford of Sydney NS, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends who were like family.

Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02301 on Tuesday, June 26th at 9:30AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 10:30AM.
