Cesario “Burbur” Monteiro, 92, of Brockton, MA passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA. He was the husband of Candida “Pinina” Monteiro.
Born April 10, 1925 in Fogo, Cabo Verde, he was the son of the late Manuel Monteiro and Felizmina Gomes. Burbur lived in Fogo until he relocated to Angola with his family. During his 11 years in Angola he ran a successful store. Burbur immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1980’s where he worked for many years as a printer. His greatest accomplishments were as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, attending church, recounting stories, playing Cabo Verdeano bisca, and spoiling his grandchildren. His infectious smile and fun-loving spirit brightened everyone’s day, particularly when comedic ways shined through. Burbur was known to many as a sweet and generous man who made his friends and family his life’s priority. Before he departed he paid one last visit to his beloved Cabo Verde with his children.
He is survived by his children, Maria Goncalves, Manuel Santos Monteiro, Adelina Gomes, Ana Mazziatto, Natalia Lopes, Maria Veiga and the late Antonio Gomes. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Balbina “Bibina” Varela, and the late Ramiro “Maninho” Gomes, Francisco “Nhonho” Monteiro, Clara “Mecia” Goncalves and Helena “Tuda” Monteiro.
Funeral services will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Monday, April 24th at 11:00AM. Public is welcome at 10:30am. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00-8:00PM.
