Online Obituaries

Arthur Wyman “Pete” Finch, age 81, of West Bridgewater, passed away peacefully in the ICU at Good Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, November 16, 2017 after several years of failing health including a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.  Born at home in the Cochesett section of West Bridgewater on November 5, 1936, he was one of 15 children of the late James Clifton “Zeke” Finch and Lelia May (Holyoke) Finch.  He lived all but three years of his life in West Bridgewater.

He married his beloved wife Jo-Ann Louise (Ryan) at First Baptist Church in Whitman on November 2, 1959 and they were together for nearly 55 years until she predeceased him in June, 2014.

Pete installed ceramic tile for Thurston VanDyke from 1959-1963, followed by 13 years as a flooring installer for Moran’s Floorcraft in Brockton before being sought out to become the Superintendent in Charge of Buildings & Grounds for the Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in South Easton where he worked from 1976 until his retirement in 2003.    Through the years he regularly did side jobs in flooring and remodeling until his health intervened.  In recent years he would help out his friends at Fernandes Lumber in Easton with rekeying lock sets, as he always thrived on being busy and feeling useful.

During good health he enjoyed and took great pride in working on the home he built and his manicured yard, taking drives to the Canal, dining out, watching Country Music shows & ball games on TV, and spending time with his pampered ‘fur child,’ his sidekick toy poodle, Kylie.   The welcome mat was always out for friends and family, and the coffee pot on.

He is survived by two sisters, Louise Monroe of South Yarmouth and Betty “Minnie” Dacey of Middleboro, a brother William “Buko” Finch of Middleboro,  60+ nieces & nephews and many treasured, indispensable friends and neighbors, including Richard “Dick” Clarke, Dave Britton, Dickie Crowley, Dick & Pat Williams, and Nancy Consolazio.

He was also brother to the late Lelia Mae “Joanie” Bedrosian; James “Pop” Finch; Alvin “Teada” Finch; Dorothy Collins; Anna VanDyke; Frank “Mutt” Finch; George “Mucka” Finch; Barbara “Curley” Kahler; Doris “Bunzy” Lally; John “Pucka/Parta” Finch; and Meredith Jane Finch.
