Marigo (Kalivas) Papachronis

Marigo (Kalivas) Papachronis passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the age of 100 at Hellenic Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Canton, MA. Marigo was born on September 26, 1916 in Northern Epiros, Greece. She was one of seven children; Nikos, Kostas, Harry, Moshos, Aglaia and Antigone. She married Sophocles Papachronis in 1939 in Athens, Greece where they raised two daughters Alexandra and Zoe.
After her husband’s death in 1956, Marigo left for America with her daughters. She built her new life in Brockton, Massachusetts surrounded by her family. In 1965, Marigo was proud to officially become a United States citizen.
Marigo’s life was full and blessed with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her greatest joys were gardening, cooking, tending to her famous peach tree but, above all, enjoying her family in her role as Matriarch. Marigo was affectionately known as Yiayia by all who knew her, even those who were not her grandchildren.
Marigo is survived by her brother, Moshos Kalivas, her sister-in-law, Eftihia Kalivas; her daughters, Alexandra and her husband Christos Liapopoulos, Zoe Gossman; her grandchildren, Ted & KC Liapopoulos, Lee & Lisa Liapopoulos, Nina & George Xixis, Lissy & Michael Evans and Tim Gossman. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Christos, Markos, Kennett, Alex, Oskar, Zoe, Charlie and Lola and by many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton on Friday, July 14th from 10:00-11:30AM followed by a funeral service in the church at 11:30AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
