Anne E. (Carriuolo) Gillis, 94, a West Bridgewater resident since 1948, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Island Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeville after a period of failing health.  She was the wife of the late Robert C. Gillis.

Born May 27, 1922 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Carriuolo and Emily F. (LaRocca) Carriuolo.

Anne was known for her great knowledge of gardening, especially herb gardening. A garden at the West Bridgewater Public Library was dedicated in her honor. She spent many hours tending to her garden and maintaining her antique home that was built in 1695 on East Center Street.

She enjoyed cooking, art, music, travel, reading, basketry, and history. She was a member of the East Bridgewater Garden Club and the West Bridgewater Historical Society.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Anne is survived by her sons, Joseph F. Gillis and his wife Sarah of Carver and Christopher R. Gillis and his wife Deborah of Bridgewater; her grandchildren, Robert Gillis and his wife Tammy, James Gillis and his wife Kristine, Mark Gillis and his wife Veronica, Kurt Gillis and his wife Veronica, Sarah (Gillis) Tucker, Michael Gillis and Eva Busch, Andrew Gillis, and Tricia Dalo; her great-grandchildren, Michaela Gillis, Connor Gillis and Meagan Tucker. She is also survived by her sister, Natalie (Carriuolo) Freeman of Brockton and was the sister of the late Christopher, Joseph and Anthony Carriuolo.

Funeral Information

Following cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (RT28) WEST BRIDGEWATER on Wednesday from 4:00-7:30PM followed by a Prayer Service in the Funeral Home at 7:30PM.  Interment will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater on Thursday at 11:00AM.
