Raised and educated in Brockton, she was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1958. She then earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College School of Nursing in 1962. She then worked as a Staff Nurse at Boston City Hospital and Boston VA Hospital. She then received her Master of Science Degree from Boston College in 1967.
Prior to her marriage to David F. Russell in 1966 she taught Nursing at the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Sally was also an active participant in the “Nurse’s Health Study” sponsored by Harvard Medical School.
The three most cherished parts of Sally’s life were her Catholic faith, her loving family and her many loyal friends. Her faith was both an inspiration and a source of comfort. Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton was instrumental in her spiritual life. It was there that she received the sacraments of baptism, first communion, penance, confirmation and matrimony.
During her adult life she was an active member and communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brockton where she was a CCD Teacher and Eucharistic Minister. In more recent years, she enjoyed time spent at her home in West Harwich where she was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish. For several months she spent winters in Naples, Florida where she was a communicant of St. John Parish.
Sally was happiest when she was able to share leisure time with those she loved. Traveling and taking cruises and hosting parties for family and friends were some of the things she enjoyed the most. Trips to Bermuda were most special to her, it was there that she and David celebrated their honeymoon.
In addition to her husband David, she was the loving mother of David Francis Russell, Jr. and his wife Anne Marie, Suzanne Frances Russell Backoff and her husband Brian and Maura Ann Russell; she was the proud, loving, joy filled “Gramma” of Daniel Francis Russell; aunt of Michele Osborne Driscoll and Amanda Osborne; she is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
